In Solidarity - Beyond Red

The brave people of Burma need support now more than ever.

Here are some suggested steps beyond wearing red shirts:

1. Locate your local Burmese community - they are mostly refugees and require material and moral assistance

• Burmese are ethnically diverse - there are the majority ethnic Bamars - then the ethnic minorites of Karen, Kachin, Kaya, Mon, Shan, Chin, Rohingya and Bengali-Chuliya Muslims.


• Ethnic minorities are likely to face persecution in Myanmar and are unable to return


• Most live in urban ghettos in the city and are illegal - they hence face risk of arbitrary arrest, detention and deportation


• Those who are deported face further risk of being sold into debt bondage on Thai fishing boats as slaves - escaping years later only to face a further cycle of arbitrary arrest, detention and deportation.

2. Get in touch with local NGOs and international agencies that support the Myanmar cause to see what you can do to help

3. Write to your local parliamentarian/local papers requesting the government to assist in providing Myanmar refugees with temporary protection, particularly against arrest, detention and deportation
