Jellicle Cats

It all started with Wally.

This kucing kurap (flea-bitten cat) found wandering around the office premises some months ago.

Wally was diseased and had an annoying, loud and grating miaow, and he terrorized everyone who had to pass him to go to the loo. Once we had a staff meeting and even the Boss had to compete with Wally to talk about the State of our Clients in the World Today.

I had frequent conversations on the phone with the Therapist at the office with Wally's voice in the backgound, and she swore that Wally was a kucing jelmaan (ghostly apparition) every time she heard his voice.

My Boss is an animal lover so our office has turned into a bloody shelter. My Boss is 37, single, attractive, smart and lives alone in an apartment with 12 cats. Her life is principally work and cats. So now i can see that her grand design is to create a bunch of Mini-Hers in the office.

Now in addition to Wally, we have Molly and Preggers. Thanks to the my bleeding heart colleagues(the Mini-Hers), Wally the kucing kurap was taken to a vet and vaccinated, spayed and treated for his kurap and lice.

Only AW, with the softest heart in the world, would bother to nurse a kucing kurap back to health. She would apply the creams and the antibiotics faithfully everyday when Wally loitered in the grass in front of the office door, till he got better and now actually has fur as opposed to bleeding sores for a head.

He actually looks handsome. AW would say - "There goes my boy, Wally. Doesnt he look like a prince now?"

No, not really.

And what do you think Wally did when he got better? He started shagging the female cats. And so now, we also have the Siamese cat (hereinafter referred to as "Preggers") in front of our door.

Wally's mum and Molly's mum, AW and SY, now have a steady supply of Science Diet, cat toys, Friskies and cat bowls beside the printer. Because now Preggers also needs to be fed. It is now not unusual to walk by two cat bowls with half eaten Friskies on the way to the loo.

Molly is actually kind of cute. A skinny white cat with patches with a huge personality. SY is in love with Molly and bought her a Hello Kitty collar with a bell. So we have now a cat with a bell loitering in front of the door of the office. After hours, Molly is surreptitiously brought into office

Then catastrophe struck.

AW and SY and AV from the next department brought Wally for his check-up. And found out that he was FIV+.

That's right, feline immunodeficiency virus.

AW burst into tears and said "Its like a family member having cancer".

Perversely, i am suddenly interested in Wally's welfare.

Wally is now back at the vet being monitored. He has that ridiculous big collar thing on his neck. When AW and SY reached out to love him, he tried to kill them with his claws through the cage bars. My boss, who went along, said it like this:

"When we went in, he looked really bored then when he saw us he got all excited and meowed really loudly, like he was saying "Mommies!!". Then the devil came over him and he tried to kill us. Probably realised that we were the bitches who put him here in the first place".

2 weeks ago, my boss came to my desk and issued me a directive. She said,

"J (colleague) rescued a kitten from XX. I think you should take it home"

So i went over to the designated animal shelter area (with two cat cages in front of the filing room), with my heart beating. What is it this time - kitten with Parkinson's?

It was instead, a Persian-mixed white cat with the prettiest face imaginable. What a shock. It is obviously someone's cat!! Looked like it just had a pedicure with trimmed nails and fur as soft as silk. If anyone knows of someone who's missing a gorgeous kitty let me know.

Now the dog lovers amongst us are lobbying for dog rescues as well.

It's turning into a bloody zoo.

awww.. u guys!!!! *shweet*

im too scared to have cats (or pets anymore) after my kittens died in 1995. The Mom - KnotMan- was stolen. We knew this becoz the first time she went missing, she came back with a chewed tali rafia around her neck. The 2nd time she went missing, she never came back.

She left me two beauties. Panther was only a few months old when she died. When she was weak, we send her to the clinic and doc said worms... Gave her an injection... She died a week later... Worried for Panther's lil sis Abu, we took her to the vet too although she was healthy. Doc says she got it too. But with Abu, the Vet stick medicine inside u know where besides giving her the injections and all... I think it must have hurt her so much. Abu got sick right after the visit to the Vet and died 2 after that!!! I cant believe it :( It's like i send my last kitten to be murdered n had to pay the Vet RM80 for him to do it. I cried and cried and cried...

Dont think I can take the responsibility anymore... I scared that I might end up indirectly kill another cat. It hurts way too much. But I admire ppl who continuosly showered love to animals... esp stray ones.

everyone - um that isnt an actual picture of wally, haha, Wally looks a little better than that but it sure captured his personality. Now he's hurt his foot because someone ran over him with the car because he always sleeps behind the tyres. Such a magnet for disaster, that Wally.

Awww Inn....how painful. I know i had to deal with carnage of my kittens on Hari Raya Haji day when the neighbour's dog chewed his way into our hedge fence and murdered all of our (then) 6 cats save one.

Ylanda - aiyo, I'm found out. Ok will check out Mr Marathon's site...
