Comfort Islands

Oh i need so much to Withdraw and sort out this Mess which is my Mind.

Everything going topsy-turvy. I need retreat, meditation and calmness.

In the middle of the mental confusion, Comfort and Peace comes in strange packages.

Over the weekend, M invited myself, my Russian Desperate Housewife mate, and Mum over for a home-cooked lunch. Together with her mum, F and F's Mum and LH, her (closet) lesbian partner.

M and LH share a gorgeous, cosy apartment ruled by 5 cats. The whole apartment is ergonomically designed for the felines - catnip, cat toys, cat litter and specially designed shelves for the kuchings to frolic.

So there we were, on a wet, rainy Saturday afternoon. Mums, Cats and warm comfort food (pasta, fresh bread and home baked cheesecake) with steaming mugs of coffee, watching the rain pour. Chatting and letting the Cats nibble our toes.

I felt so Content. Even with Mum in the room.

Then on Sunday had privilege of spending birthday with twinnies - Happy Birthday Girls! Albeit missed out on all the running fun. Azuradec i am now inspired to be a marathonist. Take me and do as you will.

On Monday, when everything was manic, Ch my colleague calls me and tells me he is feeling existentialist and forlorn. And if i could pop over with him to Dewan Bahasa to get some puisi and sajak because "Halva, I need it for lightness".

What a nice idea, I thought. That puisi and sajak could be panacea for ills. So off we went.

Ch picked up some Puisi Warisan and a book on translated Russian poetry in Malay and Russian. And then we had lunch - ulam, sambal belacan and ikan masin - with Ch reading the poems in Russian and me (in between mouthfuls) replying in Malay. (*must make mental note to introduce Ch to Russian Desperate Housewife). And discussed the possibility of heritage walks in Ch's hometown, Penang, and being feted by his mum's Nyonya cooking + project of documenting his grandma's Malay/Nyonya recipies. (ikan kekek with cili hijau, ayam buah keluak...)

Then we had the best chekodok goreng in KL, i think. Crispy with bits of melted gula melaka.

What a perfect lunch.

Lightness indeed.

As usual, I zoom in straight into the food bit (aside though: didn't know there exists a book on Malay puisi in Russian/Malay. how cool is that...?). But just where is this best cekodok goreng with melted gula melaka??? Must get hands on them.
